Going Batty.

For nearly eleven years a microbat has been observed at night roosting high on the brickwork of the porch, probably to eat its prey in a safe sheltered situation, as moth wings have been found underneath. This snap was taken in late August 2014.

According to this site, bats generally live for five to ten years, but can live for up to twenty years. The next snap was taken this month, and its aged appearance makes one wonder if it is the same individual photographed all those years ago.

Wasps.

Ichneumon wasps are frequent visitors to the moth light, they have two large compound eyes, and three simple eyes or ocelli on top of the head. These can be seen in the enlarged images, and the white dots seen in the first image are the reflection of the camera flash from the ocelli. Click images to enlarge.
