Regrowth is now getting under way, but the plants that rode it out are putting on a show. The following pictures illustrate that show with many of the subjects having special significance to the gardener. Grown from seed from a long forgotten source, this callistemon with its clear red flowers is always a reliable food source for the garden bred immature Red Wattlebirds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/wattle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/wattlebl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rainbow Lorikeets also get in on the act.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/rainbow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/rainbowbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many years ago when dropping down to the Avon river on a remote 4WD track, the parent of this cutting grown callistemon caught our eye on the bank.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/avon pink.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/avon pinkbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"379\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the Avon River Channel this rosy lilac coloured callistemon grows in company with the typical form of C. pallidus. It is a successful hardy garden shrub.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/avon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/avonbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Veronica perfoliata and Veronica derwentiana are common in the higher country to the north, but the white form of the former and the blue form of the latter are special. They came from the Clearview Nursery of the late Bill Cane, an indefatigable seeker of the unusual.<\/p>\n<p>Digger&#8217;s Speedwell, Veronica perfoliata, white.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/white2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/white2bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/speedwell (2).jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/speedwell (2)bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Derwent Speedwell, Veronica derwentiana, blue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/speedwell.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/speedwellbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also from Clearview, the white Callistemon citrinus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/citwhite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/citwhitebl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bulbine species bulbosa and semibarbata are local plants that are especially favoured by the pollen gathering native bees.<\/p>\n<p>Bulbine bulbosa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/bulbine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/bulbinebl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/beebb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/beebbbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bulbine semibarbata.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/semi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/semibl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Three Leptospermums, the hybrid Rhiannon, rotundifolium, and macrocarpum are well worth waiting twelve months for. The nectaring\u00a0 Australian Admiral would agree.<\/p>\n<p>Leptospermum &#8220;Rhiannon&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lepto2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lepto2bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leptospermum rotundifolium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lepto3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lepto3bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leptospermum macrocarpum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/macro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/macrobl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/nectaring.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/nectaringbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Pale Vanilla Lily, Arthropodium milleflorum is a delightful plant, also relished by native bees.\u00a0 Their pollinating exploits have, as with the Bulbines, resulted in many seedlings popping up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lily.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/lilybl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"383\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another plant loved by the honeyeaters is Eremophila maculata.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/maculata.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/maculatabl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And to conclude this garden celebration, another beautiful Eremophila, &#8220;Yanna Road&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/erem.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden\/erembl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Click images to enlarge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Woolenook\/\"><em>Woolenook Native Nursery<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another spring is with us after a winter that produced a dry 7 below frost that caused significant damage to a number of shrubs.
