Starting off in the garden and the Xerochrysums, usually popular with insects, and on this occasion with a Tachinid fly feeding.<\/p>\n

Close to the Xerochrysums is a Leptospermum macrocarpum in spectacular full flower. It is dripping with nectar, and this mating pair of hairy flower wasps took advantage of the food supply. The female is wingless, and depends on the male to allow her to feed while he is moving from flower to flower tucking in.<\/p>\n

Several of these Ichneumon wasps have been very busy fossicking through foliage.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Hoverflies are again very abundant this season, the Westringea fruticosa is popular.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

A trip to the Providence Ponds area showed that it has been an outstanding spring for the grassland flora, with the Purple Diuris having a wonderful season. Insects though seemed to be scarce despite the wealth of flowers, this pollen gathering lasioglossum bee was one of the few photographed, on Common Everlasting.<\/p>\n

Assassin bugs however have been not all that uncommon.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

And to conclude, a mating pair of very small Robber Flies, each only about 12 mm long.<\/p>\n
