This specimen of Pogonortalis doclea was noticed on the brick wall, and its common name of boatman fly is derived from the movement of the wings that resembles paddling a vessel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/boatmanfly.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/boatmanflyb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"723\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another small fly recently photographed is this one in the genus Homoneura, family Lauxaniidae.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/fly.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"772\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stink bugs have been quite numerous, this is from the genus Poecilometis, family Pentatomidae.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/bug.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/bugb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"747\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Redbacks are common spiders, here is one with prey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/redback.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"717\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two more pictures of a male Opisthoncus necator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/necator2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/necator2b.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"636\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/necator3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/necator3b.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"641\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A female at the entrance to her retreat made from two leaves silked together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/fem.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/femb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"557\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And two of another female who has just caught a hearty lunch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/opisfly.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"825\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/pix19\/opisfly2.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"874\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Some images will enlarge.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Signal flies get their common name from their habit of keeping their wings in motion as though signalling.
