This post is as the title suggests, a variety of creatures snapped in the garden. We expected a lot of St. Andrews Cross spiders after the many females with egg sacs last season, but so far only a lone small male has been found.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/crossmale.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/crossmaleb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"680\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a shower, a check of the rain gauge disclosed five millimetres and an unusually coloured Redback Spider, a small female in her brightest clothes&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/redbackb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"485\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Small grasshoppers are quite abundant and can be found sitting quietly and cooperatively on assorted vantage points, in this case the frond of an elkhorn fern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/hopper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/hopperb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"429\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not far away a very small robber fly was perched on the brick wall, highly enlarged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/robber.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/robberb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"831\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On a red gum, a mealybug ladybird larva, Cryptolaemus montrouzieri was slowly moving about.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/larva.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"722\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dropping from foliage to the ground, an assassin bug, Gminatus australis wouldn&#8217;t stop and was snapped on the move.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/assassin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/assassinb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"840\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As previously mentioned, Odonata are scarce, but as always, very photogenic.<\/p>\n<p>Black-faced Percher, Diplacodes melanopsis, male.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/male.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/maleb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Females.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/female.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/femaleb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"446\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/melaf.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/melafb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"458\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hemicordulia australiae, Australian Emerald, black pterostigma, small yellow tail spot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/ausem.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/ausemb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"508\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Teneral male Blue Skimmer, Orthretrum caledonicum, blue just starting to appear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/skimmer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/skimmerb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, a tiny moth perched on a Correa glabra flower, Thema brevivitella, (Oecophoridae)<br \/>\nThe larvae of this genus feed on the dry leaf litter helping to recycle it into the ground.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/moth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/bencruachan.org\/naturality\/garden11\/mothb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"788\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Most images will enlarge with a click.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With butterflies, spiders and Odonata have not been around in their usual numbers in the garden, possibly a seasonal thing connected with the long dry.
